An alliance has been established between the School of Engineering of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (UPRM) and the National Center for Women in Information Technologies (NCWIT) to address the low participation of females and the decreasing trend that has been experimented during recent years in the Computer, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering programs at UPRM. The Broadening Participation in Data Mining (BPDM) Program cultivates a talented and diverse population of data mining researchers by providing a venue for which students of underrepresented groups (URM) are exposed to technically rich content and guidance from senior researchers in industry, academia, and government. BPDM attendees will attend various panels and featured talks which will address common issues and advancements in Data Mining as well as participate in various networking breaks that will allow for continued discussions with mentors and peers.
